Qatar Reiterates Support for UN Programs to Face Climate Challenges, Combat Terrorism

New York Information Office - December 12 The State of Qatar reiterated its support for the United Nations programs to face climate challenges and combat terrorism, and indicated that it has strengthened its efforts at the national level to address terrorism and its financing, and has developed its cooperation with international partners and its active participation in international and regional arrangements, stressing its effective partnership with the United Nations. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in the high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on "Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Security in the context of Terrorism and Climate Change".


Qatar confirms continuation of enhancing partnership with the United Nations system

New York - Information Office - 11 December The State of Qatar reiterated the continuation of partnership with the United Nations system to achieve its goals, pointing out that it is one of the leading countries in providing development and relief assistance, expressing its keenness to adhere to the principles of shared responsibility and multilateral action. This was reflected in the statement delivered by HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, Third Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, at the session of the United Nations General Assembly on the item "Strengthening the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance provided by the United Nations, including special economic assistance."


Qatar confirms its intention to submit a draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly on the 2022 World Cup

New York - Information Office – 8 December The State of Qatar has confirmed its intention to submit a draft resolution under the item (Sports for Development and Peace) at the current session of the United Nations General Assembly entitled: "The FIFA World Cup Championship 2022 organized in the State of Qatar". The State of Qatar Renews Commitment to Efforts Promoting a Culture of Peace

Qatar Renews Supports of Efforts Aiming to Resolve the Palestinian Issue and Establish Peace in the Middle-East

New York - Information Office - December 03 The State of Qatar has renewed its firm position of supporting efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue and achieve peace in the Middle East, stressing that the success of any initiative in finding a solution has to be based on international law, United Nations resolutions, the principle of land for peace and the Arab Peace Initiative. It also stressed that such a resolution must come through negotiation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. Qatar Affirms Middle East Nuclear Weapons Evacuation Contributes to Security, Stability

New York- information office - 30 November The State of Qatar affirmed that freeing the Middle East region of nuclear weapons contributes to achieving security and stability in the region, pointing to its contribution over the past four decades to official efforts and initiatives to free the Middle East region of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, noting its accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons and other international treaties on weapons of mass destruction. ​ This came in a statement made by Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (NCPW) Abdulla Ibrahim Al Marzooqi, at the UN Second Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction, which began its work in New York. ​


Qatar's Permanent Representative Chairs Conclusion of UNGA's Sixth Committee

New York – Information Office – 23 November The works of the Sixth Committee (Legal) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) concluded its 76th session, chaired by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, in the presence of representatives of Member States. Qatar Coordinates Negotiations to Adopt UN Resolution on Education for Sustainable Development

New York - The Information Office - 21 November The Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee), of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, adopted a resolution that the State of Qatar and Tajikistan contributed to coordinating negotiations on its provisions, reiterating that Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a vital means of implementation necessary to achieve sustainable development; an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is related to quality education and a key enabler of all other goals.


UN Committee Adopts Resolution on International Year of Family, in which Qatar Facilities Negotiations

New York – Information Office - November 18 The Third Committee of the 76th UN General Assembly adopted, by consensus, the resolution on preparations for the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family (IYF) to implement the objectives of the International Year of the Family, which the State of Qatar facilitated negotiations about it on behalf of the Group of 77 and China at the United Nations.


Qatar Reiterates the Encouragement to Resolve International Disputes Peacefully

New York - Information Office - November 17 The State of Qatar reiterated that it attaches high priority in its foreign policy to the principle of consolidating international peace and security by promoting the peaceful resolution of international disputes, considering this approach an integral part of its permanent constitution. The State of Qatar stressed that preventive diplomacy and mediation in dispute resolution had become a hallmark of Qatari diplomacy.
