Qatar Urges All Sides to Exercise Restraint, Solve Ukrainian Crisis Through Peaceful, Diplomatic Means

New York – Information Office – 02 March The State of Qatar urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and adhere to peaceful and diplomatic means to settle disputes and differences between Russia and Ukraine. The State of Qatar expressed deep concern over the ongoing developments in Ukraine and their humanitarian repercussions, in addition to the dangerous consequences of the accelerating escalation on peace and security. This came in a statement made by HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in front of the emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly on the situation in Ukraine.


Qatar Pledges LDC5 Success in Cooperation with Partners

New York – Information Office – 02 March The State of Qatar pledged the success of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) and is looking forward to hold the first part of the conference on Mar. 17, 2022 and adopt the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) for Least Developed Countries (LDCs). This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after adopting a resolution submitted by the Group of 77 (G77) and China, in which the dates of the LDC5 were set under "Further modalities of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries." According to the decision, the first part of the conference will be held in Doha on Mar. 17, and the second part of the conference will be held in Doha from Mar. 5-9, 2023, at the highest level in the presence of heads of state and government.


Qatar Expresses Support for Establishing Comprehensive International Agreement to Confront Cybercrime

New York – Information Office – 02 March The State of Qatar has expressed its strong support for developing a comprehensive international agreement to confront cybercrime, stressing that it gives a high priority to the development of a comprehensive international agreement on combating the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the "First Session of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Elaboration of a Comprehensive International Convention on Combating the Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Criminal Purposes".

Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations meets UNICEF Executive Director

New York / Information Office / February 22 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met with Executive Director of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell. During the meeting, cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the UNICEF were reviewed. HE Sheikha Alya Al-Thani reiterated the State of Qatar's continued support for the work and programs of the Fund in the Arab region and other regions of the world.


UN Hails Qatar's Support for Launching Global Network on Protection of Vulnerable Targets against Terrorist Attacks

New York / Information Office / February 16 The United Nations praised the State of Qatar and its support for the launch of the United Nations Global Network of Experts on the Protection of Vulnerable Targets against Terrorist Attacks. The launch of the network comes within the framework of the UN Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets. This came at the high-level virtual meeting held by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) to launch the Global Network of Experts on the Protection of Vulnerable Targets against Terrorist Attacks, with the participation of nearly 200 senior officials, experts and stakeholders from Member States, international and regional organizations, the private sector, civil society, and academia.


Permanent Representatives of Qatar and Denmark Begin Facilitating Negotiations on UN Security Council Reform

This came in a statement made by HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in the UNOCT Annual Briefing to the Member States on the steady progress of the Office's activities and a review of its ambitious agenda to expand the scope of its programs and assistance.


Qatar Stresses Importance of Women's Participation in Making, Preserving, Building, Sustaining Peace

Qatar's Embassies, Consulates Continue National Day Celebrations

​In New York, the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations held a ceremony on the occasion of the State's National Day. The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of members of the diplomatic corps, heads of international, intellectual, and academic organizations, UN officials, representatives of the media accredited to the international organization in New York, and a group of members of the Arab and Islamic community. The 2021 National Day celebration has acquired a special significance, as it coincides with the comprehensive renaissance witnessed by the State of Qatar in various fields, and also coincides with the golden jubilee of the 50th anniversary of the accession of the State of Qatar to the UN and the beginning of the countdown to the launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, hosted by Qatar in November 2022, as the first World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.
