Qatar Stresses Need for International Cooperation to Meet Development Challenges for Countries in Special Situations

New York - Information Office - October 15

The State of Qatar underlined that meeting the development needs and challenges for groups of countries in special situations requires fostering multilateral cooperation and global partnerships, in order to support the efforts made by these countries in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its ambitious goals.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by the Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, before the UN General Assembly Second Committee (Economic and Financial Committee) on item "Groups of Countries in Special Situations".

Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the new phase that began with the unanimous adoption of the Doha Program of Action for Least Developed Countries, during the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in March 2022, is an important step forward in the efforts to support the endeavors of the least developed countries to overcome the challenges they face and to bring about the desired transformational change.

He underlined that the success of the Doha Program of Action (2022-2031), which constitutes a road map and a solid basis for raising the level of ambition and leaving no one behind, requires concerted efforts and ensuring the fulfillment of the commitments undertaken, effective follow-up, and acceleration of the full implementation of this Program by all partners and relevant stakeholders.

He expressed Qatar's aspiration that the LDC5, the second part of which will be held in Doha from March 5-9, 2023, will be a unique opportunity to demonstrate commitment to multilateral action, and to announce ambitious and innovative partnerships, plans and actions that ensure the translation of Doha Program of Action into tangible results.
He reiterated that the State of Qatar will be, as usual, ready to continue its positive contributions and its continuous support in order to move forward in achieving common goals.

The State of Qatar co-chairs the Group of Friends of the Least Developed Countries, along with the Republic of Turkey and the Kingdom of Belgium.
