Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets Launched with Qatar's Funding

New York, January 23 (QNA) - The Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets has been launched with funding from the State of Qatar as part of its strong partnership with parties to the Global Strategy for coordinating the cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, within the framework of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani underlined that the State of Qatar realizes this responsibility and follows a comprehensive approach to preventing and combating threats of terrorism and dealing with advanced threats; while paying special attention to the protection of vulnerable targets, expressing confidence that the Global Programme launched today will be key to achieving these goals. The Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets was launched during a high-level virtual event organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in partnership with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, in consultation with the INTERPOL and the Executive Directorate of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee.


HH the Amir Participates in the Opening Session of the 75th UN General Assembly

HH the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani took part in the opening session of the General Debate of the Seventy-Fifth Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was held via videoconference from the UN headquarters in New York, with the participation of a number of Their Majesties, Highnesses and Excellencies leaders of countries and heads of governments and delegations.


Qatar Informs UN Security Council of Bahraini Military Boats' Violation of its Regional Waters

The State of Qatar informed the United Nations Security Council that Bahraini military boats violated its regional waters on Wednesday, Nov. 25 of 2020, and called on the UN to take the appropriate measures to maintain international peace and security and put an end to Bahraini violations. This came in a message by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani addressed to HE Permanent Representative of South Africa and President of the Security Council for this month Jerry Matjela, and HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, in which the State of Qatar condemned these dangerous and illegal acts.


Qatar Informs UN Security Council, Secretary-General about Bahraini Aircraft Violations of Qatari Airspace

New York – Information Office – 24 December The State of Qatar informed the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General about violations by four Bahraini fighter jets that penetrated Qatari airspace on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani sent a letter to HE Permanent Representative of South Africa to the UN Ambassador Jerry Matjila, who is the President of the Security Council for this month, and to HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which included an official notification by the government of the State of Qatar about Bahraini military aircraft's violations of Qatar's airspace over its territorial waters.


The permanent delegation of state of Qatar at the UN celebrates the National Day

New York, December 18 (QNA) -The permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York held a virtual celebration on the occasion of the National Day, with the participation of HE President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkr, HE Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed, as well as Their Excellencies ambassadors accredited to the United Nations and officials of the United Nations Secretariat.


UN General Assembly Adopts Resolution Presented by Qatar to Grant Observer Status for Global Dryland Alliance

New York, December 16 (QNA) - The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to grant observer status in the UN General Assembly for the Global Dryland Alliance (GDA), which is based in Doha. The resolution was presented by the State of Qatar and joined by 49 countries, unanimously. The resolution calls on the Global Dryland Alliance to participate in the General Assembly as an observer.



Qatar Affirms Keenness on Supporting International Efforts to Implement Youth, Peace and Security Agenda

New York, December 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has affirmed its keenness on supporting international efforts to implement youth, peace and security agenda in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2250 (2015), announcing the hosting of a high-level global conference on comprehensive peace processes, which will be held in Doha on May 29-30, 2021. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at a session held in the UN Security Council Arria-formula: "Youth, Peace and Security: Capitalizing on Intergenerational Dialogue to build and sustain peace and enhance social cohesion at community levels."


Qatar Reiterates Endeavors to Support Restoration of Security, Peace in Afghanistan

New York, December 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar is proud of its role in the context of international efforts aimed at helping the brothers in Afghanistan to reach the desired peace, by playing a mediating role, with the support of friendly countries, led by the United States. Qatar stressed that its endeavors to support the restoration of security, peace and prosperity in Afghanistan reflects its firm foreign policy, which attaches importance to promoting the settlement of disputes through peaceful means and mediation. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the 75th session of UN General Assembly on "The situation in Afghanistan".


Qatar and United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Hold Third Strategic Dialogue

New York, December 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held the third strategic dialogue via a video conference. Undersecretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov chaired the UNOCT side, while HE Director of the International Cooperation Department and Chairman of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee at the Ministry of Interior chaired the Qatari side. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, HE Director of Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Sultan Laram and President of Qatar International Academy for Security Studies Dr. Majed Al Ansari. The dialogue reviewed the progress made in counter-terrorism cooperation between the UNOCT and the State of Qatar since the last Strategic Dialogue held on Dec.15, 2019.
