Qatar, Sao Tome and Principe Establish Diplomatic Relations

New York, May 04 (QNA) - The signing ceremonies of a joint communique to establish diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe took place at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York.


UN General Assembly Declares March 10 International Day of Women Judges on Initiative of State of Qatar

New York, April 29 (QNA) - The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared in a resolution adopted by consensus that March 10 of every year will be International Day of Women Judges due to the initiative of the State of Qatar. Before the resolution was adopted, 72 countries joined the sponsorship and adoption of the draft resolution, including a number of Arab countries, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Kuwait, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania and South Sudan.


The State of Qatar Calls for Reducing Tensions and Ending Crises in the Middle East

New York, April 23 (QNA) - The State of Qatar called for work to reduce tensions and end crises in the Middle East, in light of the crises and challenges the region is witnessing, including the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, stressing the need for fruitful cooperation and the consolidation of the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect. The State of Qatar's statement was during the UN Security Council Open Debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, read by HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani.


Qatar Affirms the Only Way to End Human Rights Violations in Syria is through Political Solution

New York, April 21 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reaffirmed that the only way to ensure the cessation of all violations in Syria is to resolve the crisis, stressing at the same time that accountability for the most serious crimes that violate international law is an important element in order to ensure the sustainability of peace. This came in a statement made by HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the United Nations General Assembly meeting on the report of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in Syria since March 2011.


Qatar Unanimously Elected to Membership of Several UN Institutions

New York, April 20 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has been unanimously elected to the membership of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the period (2022-2024), as well as the membership of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).


The State of Qatar Affirms its Commitment to Fair Production and Supply of COVID-19 Vaccines

New York, April 17 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed its moral and humanitarian commitment to ensure fair production and supply of COVID-19 vaccines all over the world, warning that the big gap in vaccine availability could derail the efforts made to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030. This came in the statement read by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the United Nations Economic and Social Council session "A Vaccine for All."


Qatar Affirms Urgent Need for International Community to enhance Women Participation in Peace Processes, Negotiations

New York, April 14 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed the urgent need for the international community to pay more attention to enhancing the participation of women in peace processes and negotiations, expressing its belief that the essential step for preventing sexual violence in conflicts lies in taking proactive measures in order to empower women in all stages, whether before or after the outbreak of conflicts, including ensuring their full and active participation in political, economic and social life. This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before a virtual meeting held by the UN Security Council on "sexual violence in conflicts."


Qatar, Equatorial Guinea Sign Joint Statement to Establish Diplomatic Relations

New York, April 09 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea signed a joint statement to establish diplomatic relations. The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York. The statement was signed by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, and HE the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba.


Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to UN Holds Event on Autism and COVID-19

New York / Information Office / April 09 The Permanent Qatari delegation to the United Nations in New York organized, in cooperation with the permanent missions of the State of Kuwait, Poland, Brazil, Bangladesh, South Korea and Autism Speaks, organized virtually an event on COVID-19 and autism and how technology can support the global response and recovery. UN General Assembly Holds Meeting on Covid-19 Vaccines at Request of 16 Countries, including Qatar

New York, April 01 (QNA) - The President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir held an informal meeting at the request of Qatar, Lebanon, Brazil, Denmark, Fiji, India, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, South Korea, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines, Senegal, Sweden and the United Kingdom, which are the countries that prepared the "Political Declaration on Equitable Global Access to Covid-19 Vaccines", in order to announce the launch of the Joint Political Declaration that 181 countries joined until the date of the session.
