Her Excellency Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, met today with His Excellency Mr. Adonia Ayebare, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, at the Permanent Mission’s headquarters in New York.

His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani participated in the opening session of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, held this morning in New York city, in the presence of Their Majesties and Excellencies, leaders of states, heads of government and delegations, as well as representatives of governmental and civil organisations.

The State of Qatar and the Republic of Naoero signed an agreement Wednesday to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries at the headquarters of Permanent mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held a special session to pay tribute to the memory of HH the Late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met with HE President-elect of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Dr. Khalilur Rahman.

The State of Qatar, in a statement on behalf of the Arab Group at the United Nations, renewed its firm position in support of the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, rejecting external interference in its internal affairs and any attempt to undermine its security and stability. It affirmed that Syria's unity and stability constitute a pillar of regional security and stability.

The Group of Arab States at the United Nations condemned the Israeli occupation's illegal settlement expansion policies across the occupied Palestinian territories, and rejected the the E1 settlement plan and related settlement activities in the occupied East Jerusalem (Al-Quds).

The State of Qatar stressed the importance of protecting food security and strengthening the resilience of countries vulnerable to food insecurity.

The State of Qatar has addressed two identical letters to His Excellency Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and His Excellency Mr. Zénon Mukongo Ngay, Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of July, regarding developments related to the Iranian attack on its territory. The attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Qatar's national sovereignty, a direct infringement on its security and territorial integrity, and an unacceptable escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.

HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres offered his condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the passing of HH the Late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
