Appointment of Permanent Representatives of Qatar, Denmark to Facilitate UN Security Council Reform Negotiations

New York/ QNA/ 11/10/2021 HE President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid appointed HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Denmark Ambassador Bille Hermann to lead the facilitation of informal negotiations on the reform of the UN Security Council in accordance with General Assembly resolutions calling for reform of the Council in terms of equitable representation, increase in the number of its members and other matters. ​


Qatar Calls for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights and Upholding Rule of Law

New York – Information Office - November 10 The State of Qatar has called for constantly working to protect and promote human rights for all and uphold the rule of law, at the national, regional and international levels, and affirmed its constant condemnation of policies and procedures that increase exclusion, marginalization and deprivation at various levels. Qatar explained that avoiding conflicts and putting an end to them after their outbreak and ensuring the sustainability of peace after conflicts requires, above all, addressing the root factors that constitute a fertile environment for the outbreak and exacerbation of tensions, considering that exclusion, marginalization, discrimination and inequality are the causes of the outbreak of tensions. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the opening session of the UN Security Council Open Debate on "Maintaining international peace and security: Exclusion, inequality and conflict", which was chaired by HE President of the United Mexican States Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, whose country presided over the Council's work this month.


Qatar Victory in Human Rights Council Membership Reflects Confidence

Qatar Praises Efforts to Strengthening UN System

It considered the adoption of the Manila Declaration by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as one of the main achievements of the Committee, noting its active role in preparing the Handbook on the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes between States. This event is designed to bring together key stakeholders, including the Friends of Women in Afghanistan and regional partners to exchange views and hear from Afghan women leaders. At the opening session of the event, HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani stressed that empowering women in Afghanistan is necessary to achieve peace, security and economic stability, calling for humanitarian aid to be independent of the political track.


Qatar Reiterates Importance of the Principle of Jurisdiction

Qatar Reiterates That International Law, International Legitimacy are Basis for Permanent Settlement of Middle East

New York / Information Office / October 21 The State of Qatar reiterated that a permanent, comprehensive, and just settlement of the Middle East issue will only be achieved on the basis of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to ending the occupation of all occupied Arab lands, including the Syrian Golan and the occupied Lebanese territories, ending settlements, a just solution to the issue refugees, and the Palestinians enjoy their inalienable rights, especially their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the vision of the two-state solution.
