Qatar Reiterates Support for All Efforts to Promote Culture of Peace

The State of Qatar reiterated its support for all efforts made to promote a culture of peace and expressed its commitment to the effective implementation of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace and resolutions related to this subject.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by HE State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the High-Level Forum on the Culture of Peace convened by HE President of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid under the theme, "The Culture of Peace: Importance of Justice, Equality, and Inclusion for Advancing Peacebuilding."

HE State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN indicated that the culture of peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but rather it is diligent work to build resilient and inclusive societies for all, achieve sustainable economic and social development, and respect human rights. HE stressed the need for a culture of peace to combat social injustice, hate speech, terrorism and violence, and misinformation.
The most effective way to promote a culture of peace is by giving priority to education. Providing quality, equitable and inclusive education for all, including women and girls, is the basis for building lasting peace and ensuring prosperity for many years to come for all humanity and the entire planet, HE pointed out.
The State of Qatar has made financing transformative education that changes the lives of all one of its priorities at home and abroad. It also welcomed the Transforming Education Summit convened by the UN Secretary-General, which constitute a major initiative in the common agenda, HE highlighted.
This summit provides a unique opportunity to transform education, reaching millions of children and youth who are falling behind the most today, HE explained. During this summit, HE hoped that world leaders would agree to put and keep quality, inclusive and transformative education high on the international political agenda.
HE State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN reiterated the State of Qatar's support for the establishment of an international day to combat Islamophobia, expressing that reviving such a day would be an essential way to promote a culture of peace and tolerance at all levels.
HE highlighted the importance of sport in building a culture of peace, solidarity, tolerance, social integration, and understanding between peoples and nations. In this context, HE pointed out that the State of Qatar will host the first-ever FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to be organized in the Middle East and the Arab region.
This tournament will represent the link for billions of people from all over the world, and will serve as a melting pot for all cultures, HE said.
The culture of peace will be at the forefront of the efforts made to organize the World Cup, stressing that the State of Qatar will harness the power generated by football to create a better future for current and future generations, HE explained.
The FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the first environmentally friendly tournament in the history of the World Cup, will promote peace and development, respect for human rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls, HE stressed. The State of Qatar will remain a faithful and committed partner in promoting the values of a culture of peace, HE added.
