Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Continue Efforts to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons

New York - Information Office - 23 October 2019 The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to continue efforts towards elimination of nuclear weapons and non-proliferation to achieve security and stability in the region and the world. This came in a statement by the delegation of the State of Qatar, delivered by Abdulrahman Salim Al Ali, member of the delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the First Committee of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly on the item "nuclear weapons". The State of Qatar's statement noted that the international community's efforts to eliminate the threat posed by nuclear weapons to international peace and security have continued since the adoption of the first General Assembly resolution on disarmament, which was followed by the adoption of the document of the first special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament and the Non-Proliferation Treaty of 1968.


Qatar's Permanent Delegation to UN Hosts Meeting of Group of Friends of Sport for Development and Peace

New York - Information Office - 23 October 2019 The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations hosted, on its own initiative, the meeting of the Group of Friends of Sport for Development and Peace. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani welcomed the participants to the special meeting and stressed the strong relationship between sport and the goals of development and peace. In this context, HE Sheikha Alya said that the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office (UNOCT) and the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), a non-profit organisation based in Doha, have recently signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on issues related to the prevention and combating of terrorism, particularly in relation to the protection of vulnerable targets in the context of major sporting events.


Qatar Doesn't Tolerate Corruption in Sport and Life Aspects

New York - Information Office - 23 October 2019 The State of Qatar reiterated that it does not tolerate corruption in sport or any aspects of life and seeks to promote transparency and accountability in all its aspects and at all levels. This came at a special event organized by the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in cooperation with the Permanent Missions of the Russian Federation, Italy and Colombia and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Participants in the event shed the light on corruption in sport as something new, calling for a comprehensive response to the risks of this phenomenon at the international, regional and national levels, building on the relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly. The basis for this special event was the International Conference on Safeguarding Sport from Corruption held in Vienna in June, 2018.


Qatar Affirms Cybercrime and Piracy Pose Significant Threat to International Peace and Security

Qatar Calls for Firm Policy on Disarmament and Non-proliferation Issues

New York, October 15 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has expressed its keenness on adopting a firm policy on disarmament and non-proliferation issues, affirming its firm belief that achieving international peace and security is the shared responsibility of States. It stressed that the multilateral framework was the only way to address disarmament, non-proliferation and international security issues and rid humanity of weapons of mass destruction in general and nuclear weapons in particular. Qatar Reiterates Strong Condemnation of all Forms of Terrorism

New York, October 09 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated its strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, committed by whomever and wherever, and regardless of its justifications. The State of Qatar also renewed its support for holding a high-level conference under the auspices of the United Nations, in order to adopt a unified international position on counter-terrorism, including an agreed definition of terrorism. This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by HE Second Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani before Sixth (Legal) Committee of the United Nations General Assembly at its 74th Session on "Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism". HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani said that the State of Qatar will continue to work within the framework of the United Nations to reach a comprehensive agreement on international terrorism that will include a specific definition of terrorism without linking it to religion, race or culture, stressing the need to distinguish between terrorism, legitimate resistance against foreign occupation, self-defense and the right of self-determination of peoples under occupation.


Qatar Committed to Principle of Cooperation, Partnership to Address Challenges Facing International Community
