Qatar Renews Commitment to Ensure Participation of Women in United Nations Peace Processes

New York, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has renewed its unequivocal commitment to continue developing frameworks and tools to ensure meaningful participation of women in dialogue, negotiation and peace processes, stressing that ensuring the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in peace processes led by the United Nations is fundamental to the sustainability of peace, sustainable development and human rights. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at UN Security Council's virtual Arria-Formula meeting, called by the United States, which presides over the work of the Council for this month on "Leading by Example: Ensuring the Full, Equal and Meaningful Participation of Women in UN-led Peace Processes."


Qatar Reiterates Call for Political Solution, Condemns Human Rights Violations Committed in Syria

New York, March 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has renewed the call for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, stressing that military solutions will only result in more suffering and destabilization of security and stability. The State of Qatar denounced human rights violations and perpetration of atrocious crimes in Syria, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability to ensure that there is no impunity. This came in the State of Qatar's statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at a UN General Assembly High-Level Informal Plenary Meeting on Syria.


Qatar Affirms Peaceful Means the Best Way to Maintain Peace, Security, Stability

New York, February 25 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated that peaceful means are the best way to achieve the goals of peace, security and stability in the region and around the world, calling on member states to fulfill their obligations in accordance with the United Nations Charter, and to refrain in their international relations from using force in contradiction with the purposes of the United Nations. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at UN Security Council's virtual Arria-Formula meeting, convened by Mexico, which chairs the Council's work for this month, on "upholding the collective security system of the UN Charter: the use of force in international law, non-state actors and legitimate self-defense."


Qatar Pledges That Doha Plan of Action Will Be Starting Point For Transforming Most Vulnerable Countries

New York, February 09 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has pledged that the Doha Plan of Action will be a starting point for transforming the lives of millions of people living in the most vulnerable countries, and putting the least developed countries on the path towards sustainable and comprehensive development. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during the Organisational Session of the Preparatory Committee for the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.


The State of Qatar Reiterates Commitment to GCC Unity

New York, January 29 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed its commitment to the unity of the GCC and the restoration of the cohesion of the peoples of the region, and its aspiration to achieve the people's aspirations for greater solidarity, growth and stability, stressing that it continues to work sincerely towards creating the conditions for it and in the interest sought by its people and the peoples of the region as a whole. Qatar and Poland Chair First Round of Intergovernmental Negotiations to Reform Security Council

New York, January 28 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Poland Ambassador Joanna Wronecka, as the co-chairs of this process during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, chaired the first round of the intergovernmental negotiation on the issue of equitable Security Council representation, increasing the number of its members and other issues related to the Security Council. The first round, that last for two day, concentrated on the regional representation issue, while the member states and the regional groups and blocs concerned with the issue of Security Council reform reviewed their points of view regarding the Council reform.


Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets Launched with Qatar's Funding

New York, January 23 (QNA) - The Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets has been launched with funding from the State of Qatar as part of its strong partnership with parties to the Global Strategy for coordinating the cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, within the framework of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani underlined that the State of Qatar realizes this responsibility and follows a comprehensive approach to preventing and combating threats of terrorism and dealing with advanced threats; while paying special attention to the protection of vulnerable targets, expressing confidence that the Global Programme launched today will be key to achieving these goals. The Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets was launched during a high-level virtual event organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in partnership with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, in consultation with the INTERPOL and the Executive Directorate of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee.


HH the Amir Participates in the Opening Session of the 75th UN General Assembly

Qatar Informs UN Security Council of Bahraini Military Boats' Violation of its Regional Waters

The State of Qatar informed the United Nations Security Council that Bahraini military boats violated its regional waters on Wednesday, Nov. 25 of 2020, and called on the UN to take the appropriate measures to maintain international peace and security and put an end to Bahraini violations. This came in a message by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani addressed to HE Permanent Representative of South Africa and President of the Security Council for this month Jerry Matjela, and HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, in which the State of Qatar condemned these dangerous and illegal acts.


Qatar Informs UN Security Council, Secretary-General about Bahraini Aircraft Violations of Qatari Airspace

New York – Information Office – 24 December The State of Qatar informed the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General about violations by four Bahraini fighter jets that penetrated Qatari airspace on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani sent a letter to HE Permanent Representative of South Africa to the UN Ambassador Jerry Matjila, who is the President of the Security Council for this month, and to HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which included an official notification by the government of the State of Qatar about Bahraini military aircraft's violations of Qatar's airspace over its territorial waters.
