State of Qatar Reiterates Condemnation of Violence Against Civilians And Human Rights in Syria

New York, March 31 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated its firm position condemning violence against civilians and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in Syria, which were confronted with oppression and excessive violence, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the launch of the peaceful protests of the Syrian people. This came in a statement made by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, before the United Nations General Assembly in its informal session, in which Her Excellency briefed HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the General Assembly decisions 193/75 on the situation in Syria, about the resolution on the human rights situation in Syria.


Qatar Renews Support for Afghanistan to Achieve Peace, Security, Stability and Development

New York, March 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has renewed support for the brothers in Afghanistan in their endeavors towards consolidating peace, security, stability and development, and stressed that it will continue its endeavors to support all efforts with the United Nations and regional and international partners. The State of Qatar also affirmed that its sincere endeavors to support the peace process in Afghanistan are a reflection of its firm foreign policy that attaches importance to settle disputes by peaceful means, mediation and international cooperation, including cooperation with the United Nations. This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the UN Security Council, which held a virtual meeting on the situation in Afghanistan.


Qatar Affirms Continued Work with International Partners to End the Syrian Crisis

New York, March 20 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani underlined that the State of Qatar will continue to work diligently in cooperation with international partners to explore possible ways to contribute constructively to ending the Syrian crisis. This came during a virtual side event organized by the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces in New York to mark the 10th anniversary of the Syrian revolution, in partnership with the permanent mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, and the permanent missions of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Turkey and Estonia.


Qatar's Permanent Mission to UN Organizes Event on Enhancing Women's Political Participation

New York, March 18 (QNA) - The permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York, in cooperation with India, Japan, Sweden, Tanzania and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ECWA), organized a high-level event on the sidelines of the 65th session of the UN's Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), on promoting women's political participation to achieve goals of sustainable development and improved redevelopment. The high-level event focused on discussing and addressing strategies and interventions to accelerate the adoption of laws and practices, to improve conditions for women's participation in public life across the region. During the event, the effects of inequality in the representation of women in public life at the socio-economic level in its broader context on women and girls were highlighted, and the participation of women in political life in the Arab region was reviewed.


Agreement Signed to Establish UNDP Office in Doha

New York, March 16 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed an agreement to establish an office for the program in the State of Qatar. HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani signed the agreement on behalf of the State of Qatar, while UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner signed the agreement on the UNDP's behalf.


Qatar Stresses the Need for Full and Effective Participation of Women in all Peace Efforts

New York, March 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar stressed the need to ensure the full and effective participation of women in all peace efforts, even during crises, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. This came in a speech that HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani , to inaugurate the virtual seminar organized by the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies on the occasion of International Women's Day, in which it participated HE Canada's Ambassador for Women, Peace and Security Jacqueline O'Neill, and HE member of the Afghan Peace Negotiations Team in Doha Fatima Gailani. Her Excellency Sheikha Alya said that Qatar's strategy on women in peacebuilding is a comprehensive strategy, stressing the link between this strategy and sustainable development and economic empowerment of women to provide conditions conducive to stability, security and prosperity for all.


Agreement Signed to Establish UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Qatar

New York, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations have signed an agreement to establish the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the State of Qatar. HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani signed the agreement on behalf of the State of Qatar, while HE Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock signed the agreement on the UN's behalf.


Qatar Renews Commitment to Ensure Participation of Women in United Nations Peace Processes

New York, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has renewed its unequivocal commitment to continue developing frameworks and tools to ensure meaningful participation of women in dialogue, negotiation and peace processes, stressing that ensuring the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in peace processes led by the United Nations is fundamental to the sustainability of peace, sustainable development and human rights.
