Qatar and United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Hold Third Strategic Dialogue

New York, December 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held the third strategic dialogue via a video conference. Undersecretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov chaired the UNOCT side, while HE Director of the International Cooperation Department and Chairman of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee at the Ministry of Interior chaired the Qatari side. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, HE Director of Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Sultan Laram and President of Qatar International Academy for Security Studies Dr. Majed Al Ansari. The dialogue reviewed the progress made in counter-terrorism cooperation between the UNOCT and the State of Qatar since the last Strategic Dialogue held on Dec.15, 2019.


Qatar Reaffirms International Legitimacy Resolutions, End of Occupation, Two-State Solution to Solve Palestinian Cause

New York, December 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reaffirmed the peaceful settlement of the Palestine cause through negotiations between the two parties on the basis of the agreed references, the resolutions of the international legitimacy, the land for peace principle, the road map and the Arab peace initiative, as well as the achievement of the two-state solution that guarantees establishing a viable Palestinian state on the basis of June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan, ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people and fining fair solution for the refugees issue. This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the United Nations General Assembly in its 75th session to discuss the Palestinian cause.


Qatar Renews Commitment to Culture of Peace, Warns of Fabricating Crises and Spreading Hatred

New York, December 02 (QNA) - The State of Qatar renewed its commitment to the culture of peace, and warned against fabricating crises and spreading hatred among peoples, indicating that translating the commitment to the "Declaration and Program of Action on a Culture of Peace" entails distancing from policies that undermine the efforts of the international community to promote peace and security. In a statement before the 75th session of the UN General Assembly to discuss the item "Culture of Peace", HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani underlined that fabricating crises and spreading hatred among peoples undermine the efforts of the international community to promote a culture of peace, noting that the violation of the sovereignty of States, the interference in their internal affairs, and the lack of respect for international law and human rights, contradict the international communitys endeavor to spread a culture of peace.


UN Adopts Resolution Presented by Qatar and Monaco, Considers Sport as Global Accelerator of Peace and Sustainable Development

New York, December 02 (QNA) - The United Nations General Assembly adopted at its 75th session a resolution by consensus that considers "Sport: a global accelerator of peace and sustainable development," a resolution that the State of Qatar and the Principality of Monaco presented in their capacity as co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development. The resolution was adopted by 95 countries. The General Assembly reaffirmed that sport is an important factor in achieving sustainable development. It recognizes the growing contribution that sport is making to achieving development and peace, given its role in promoting tolerance and respect and its contribution to empowering women, youth, individuals and communities and achieving the desired goals in the areas of physical and mental health, education and social integration.


State of Qatar Calls for Condemnation of Illegal Coercive Measures Imposed by Blockading Countries

New York, November 26 (QNA) - The State of Qatar called for condemning the unlawful unilateral coercive measures imposed by the blockading countries and pointed out that the application of unilateral coercive measures targeting the State continues despite the evidence that they are unlawful and the relevant rulings issued by the competent international bodies such as the International Court of Justice. This came in a statement by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in the UN Security Council's virtual Arria-Formula meeting on 'End Unilateral Coercive Measures Now', which was called for by Russia, China, South Africa, Niger and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.


UN General Assembly Sixth Committee Gives Observer Status for the Global Dryland Alliance

New York, November 21 (QNA) - The Sixth Committee (Legal) of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus presented by the State of Qatar, granting an observer status for the Global Dryland Alliance (GDA), which is based in Doha. The resolution was adopted by 49 states, the largest number of approvals given to a draft resolution submitted to the Sixth Committee, which reflects the success of the Qatari diplomacy and its status in the United Nations.


3rd Committee of UN General Assembly Adopts Resolution of International Year of Family, Which Qatar Facilitated Negotiations About it

New York, November 19 (QNA) - The 3rd Committee of the United Nations General Assembly at its 75th session adopted by consensus, the resolution of the "20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family and beyond", to implement the objectives of the International Year of the Family, which the State of Qatar facilitated negotiations about it on behalf of the Group of 77 and China at the United Nations. The Group of 77 and China expressed their special appreciation to the delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, which over the past years facilitated the consultations on the resolution, as Qatar began submitting the resolution since 2004, after it hosted the Doha International Conference on the Family that year.


Permanent Representatives of Qatar, Poland Appointed to Lead Negotiations on UNSC Reform

New York, November 19 (QNA) - HE President of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir appointed HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Poland Ambassador Joanna Wronecka to lead and facilitate negotiations on Security Council reform, in accordance with General Assembly resolutions calling for reform of the Council in terms of equitable representation and increasing the number of its members and other issues related to Security Council reform. Bozkir said, in a letter to all UN Member States, that the General Assembly decided to continue the intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform at an informal session of the General Assembly during its 75th session.


Qatar's Permanent Delegation to UN Organizes Virtual Seminar on Football and Peace

New York, November 11 (QNA) - The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, the Permanent Delegation of the United States of America, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the Football for Peace Organization organized a virtual symposium in New York on football and peace. Under the title "Football for Peace, Unlocking the Power of Football," the participants in the symposium sought to focus on the important partnership established by the State of Qatar to prevent and combat violent extremism and terrorism. They also highlighted World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar, its role in empowering youth and women in the Middle East, the Arab world and the rest of the world and the vital role that football plays in the present and future of countries.


Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Support ICJ Contributions to Peaceful Settlement of Disputes

New York, November 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated its commitment to support the contributions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to the peaceful settlement of disputes and the maintenance of international peace and security. Addressing a Plenary Meeting: Report of the International Court of Justice in the framework of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani stressed the State of Qatar's adherence to the role played by the International Court of Justice in settling disputes by peaceful means, noting the State's record of respecting international judicial institutions and adhering to its decisions, especially the International Court of Justice.
