New York, June 21 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has been selected as Co-Chair of the Group of Friends of Sport for Development and Peace, jointly with the Principality of Monaco. Qatar's succeeded Tunisia in the Co-chairmanship of the group, which focused mainly on the great contributions of sport to sustainable development and peace; promoting tolerance and respect and empowering individuals and communities as emphasized in the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, affirmed that the State of Qatar, through its co-chairmanship with the Principality of Monaco, will continue to build on the achievements made during Tunisia's term as Co-chair of the group, so that the Group of Friends can remain a common platform for promoting dialogue, exchange of views and information and facilitating and encouraging the integration of sport to achieve the goals and objectives of the United Nations.

New York, June 21 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met here on Friday with HE Fekitamoeloa Katoa 'Utoikamanu the UN Under Secretary-General and The United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States to discuss the arrangements related to Doha's hosting of the UN Fifth Conference on Least Developed Countries slated for 2021 in the State of Qatar. During the meeting, HE the Ambassador welcomed the decision adopted by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, in which the Council expressed appreciation for the generous offer by the Government of the State of Qatar to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in 2021.

New York, June 21 (QNA) - The States Parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination have elected the candidate of the State of Qatar, HE Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad for the membership of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination by an overwhelming majority where she received 132 votes from a group of 180 votes to the States parties to the Convention. Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al-Missned has been elected at 28th Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination held today at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Dr. Al-Misnad was elected among 14 candidates to fill nine seats for the Committee, which begins in January 2020.

New York, June 14 (QNA) - The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations has organized, in partnership with the Shafallah Center; Mada Center for Assistive Technology; the Health and Human Technology Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Hamad Bin Khalifa University; and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work , a panel discussion on how technology can help people with autism, on the sidelines of the 12 session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. New York, June 13 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed its keenness to adopt and implement many policies and programs to enable persons with disabilities to live in dignity, stressing that the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities are guaranteed in accordance with the Constitution and the law. New York, June 07 (QNA) - The United Nations General Assembly elected Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ahmed bin Saif Al Kuwari as Vice-Chairman of the UN Economic and Financial Committee of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will begin in September. The UN General Assembly also elected Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani as Rapporteur of UN Legal Committee.

New York, June 07 (QNA) - The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar and other States organized a high-level session to launch a roadmap for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to address the issue of children recruitment and exploitation by terrorist and violent extremism groups. At the initiative of Qatar's Delegation to the UN, along with the permanent delegations of Japan, Belgium, Nigeria and Canada in addition to the UNODC, a high-level session was held for the launch of the UNODC Roadmap for action to address the children recruitment and exploited by terrorist and violent extremism groups.
