Qatar: International Community Should Not Focus on Fight against COVID-19 and Overlook Conflict Resolution

New York / Information Office / July 03 The State of Qatar affirmed that the international community should not only focus on current fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and overlook efforts to resolve existing conflicts in the regions of the world. The State of Qatar said that strong global cooperation is necessary and that work must be done together to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, but nonetheless, common and effective solutions must be found to the current crises and tensions in the world in order to stop hostilities and facilitate greater access to humanitarian relief. The Coronavirus epidemic should not be allowed to create incentives to escalate violence, nor should conflict resolution efforts be delayed or postponed. This came in Qatar's statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the virtual high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council on "pandemics and security".


At Initiative of Qatar, Monaco.. 118 Countries Adopt Joint Declaration on COVID-19 Impact On Sport, Well-Being

New York, June 20 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the Principality of Monaco, represented by their permanent delegations to the United Nations in their capacity as co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development, have initiated a Joint Declaration that was adopted by 118 member states on the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on sport, physical activity and well-being and its effects on social development. The declaration, a copy of which was delivered to HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, expressed the conviction of the importance of sport and physical activity in promoting education, sustainable development, peace, cooperation, solidarity, equity, social inclusion, and health.


Qatar Reaffirms Readiness to Work to Resolve Gulf Crisis Through Unconditional Dialogue

New York, June 06 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reaffirmed its readiness to work with the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and international bodies to resolve the Gulf crisis through unconditional dialogue, respect for the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, and non-interference in its internal affairs, expressing its full support for the efforts of HH the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to resolve the crisis. New York, May 28 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated that the unjust blockade imposed against it threatens the security and stability of the region, violates international law and contradicts the orientations of the international community, stressing that this blockade is imposed under false pretexts without regard for the dire consequences for the security and stability of the region. The State of Qatar: Cyber Attacks Threaten Security, Peace, Stability

New York, May 23 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has stressed that cyber-attacks threaten security, peace and stability, coinciding with the third anniversary of the e-piracy crime that targeted the Qatar News Agency on May 23, 2017, which was committed a few days before the imposition of the unjust and unlawful blockade against the State of Qatar on June 5, 2017. This came in a statement delivered by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council on "cyber stability, conflict prevention and capacity building", organized by Estonia, the current chair of the Council, in cooperation with Belgium, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and Kenya.

In an interview with Al-Diplomacy Magazine, prepared by the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, HE the Ambassador said that the UN selection of Qatar to open offices for its organs and organizations is an important message indicating that Qatar is at the forefront of the reliable countries in the region, as an effective and trustworthy partner for the UN in facing challenges and its regional impacts. Stability, prosperity, and the space of freedoms in the State allow those organizations to operate freely and independently, in accordance with the standards adopted by the UN, she added. Her Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar is an essential pillar of international cooperation for burden-sharing and for the UN to carry out its functions and achieve its goals, in accordance with its Charter.


Qatar Committed To Providing Conducive Environment to Youth Participation in Development Process

New York, April 28 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to continue efforts to provide an environment conducive to youth participation in the development process, noting at the same time the unprecedented challenges posed by the emerging Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, especially since the youth category was not isolated from its catastrophic effects, pointing to its efforts to provide education services for children and youth. Qatar Participates in Virtual Dialogue on UN Future, Promoting Multilateralism Principle

New York, April 25 (QNA) -The State of Qatar, on behalf of the Group of Arab States to the United Nations has affirmed the adherence of the Arab position to peace as a strategic option, calling for the settlement of the Palestinian issue on the basis of a two-state solution that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian State on the borders of July 4, 1967. It also expressed support for Palestine's full membership of the United Nations. This came in a statement by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, who chaired the Arab Group for this month to the UN Security Council, which held a virtual meeting on "the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue".
