Qatar, International Peace Institute Sign Partnership Agreement

New York - information office - 14 September The State of Qatar and the International Peace Institute (IPI) signed a partnership agreement at the headquarters of the permanent mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York. The agreement was signed on behalf of the State of Qatar by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, while IPI's President and CEO Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Al Hussein signed the agreement on behalf of the International Peace Institute.


Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Meets President-Elect of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly

New York / Information Office / September 14 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met with HE President-elect of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid. During the meeting, the agenda for the 76th session was discussed. The meeting also reviewed the role that the State of Qatar plays in the United Nations in promoting the principle of dialogue and international partnership to address crises.


Qatar Warns of Danger of Continuing Current Situation in Occupied Palestinian Territories

New York/ Information Office/ July 29 The State of Qatar warned against the danger of continuing the current situation in the Palestinian territories and the lack of a sustainable settlement of the Palestinian cause. Qatar called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in enforcing international law, implementing its resolutions, putting an end to the illegal occupation and settlement and supporting the achievement of peace. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at UN Security Council meeting on the "situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.


Qatar Renews Commitment to Call for Comprehensive Approach to Prevent Violent Extremism in Somalia, Other Hot Spots

New York / Information Office / June 25 The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to calling for a comprehensive approach to preventing violent extremism in Somalia and other hot spots in the world, by being guided by innovative methods and by relying on modern technology. This came in the statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at an event on the sidelines of the second United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week entitled "facing the new and evolving challenges in the new decade: through rehabilitation and reintegration in Somalia" organized by the State of Qatar in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia and the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund.


Qatar Considers COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis Reminder to Everyone of World's Shared Destiny

New York / Information Office / June 18 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani affirmed that the global health crisis is a reminder to everyone of the world's shared destiny, and an incentive to renew commitment to international cooperation and increase support for international institutions to face new challenges. Her Excellency indicated that the State of Qatar has followed a comprehensive approach in containing the pandemic and its effects at the national and international levels. This came in a statement delivered by Her Excellency at the UN Security Council session in the Arria formula on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on international efforts to prevent and combat terrorism and violent extremism, held on June 16, 2021.



UN Secretary-General Praises Qatar's Efforts which Contributed to Reaching Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

New York / Information Office / May 21 HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, praised the State of Qatar's efforts that contributed to reaching ceasefire between Gaza Strip and Israel. The UN chief has welcomed the ceasefire declared between Gaza and Israel, following 11 days of rocket and air attacks, which have left deaths, and offered his deepest condolences to the victims of violence and their families, saying: "I commend Egypt and Qatar for the efforts carried out, in close coordination with the UN, to help restore calm to Gaza and Israel", the UN chief added, calling on all sides to observe the ceasefire.


Qatar Affirms that it is Making Unremitting Efforts Through Mediation to Resolve Conflicts in Africa

New York / Information Office / May 20 The State of Qatar affirmed that over the past years it has made unremitting efforts, through mediation based on the United Nations Charter, to prevent and resolve conflicts on the African continent, in coordination with the Security Council. The State of Qatar also confirmed that this came as a contribution to addressing the root causes of conflicts and achieving security, peace and development in the African continent, and within the framework of Qatar's strategic partnership with the United Nations, where Qatari diplomatic mediation efforts led to the resolution of a number of conflicts in Africa, the latest of which was the resumption of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Kenya, in a way that enhances stability on the African continent. Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Collective Security, Respect for International Law

New York / Information Office / May 18 The State of Qatar affirmed that its commitment to the responsibility to protect is in line with its belief in international cooperation to establish collective security, its respect for international law, and its firm policy to enhance international peace and security. Based on this commitment, the State of Qatar continued its efforts to promote this principle, as an active member and a co-chair of the Group of Friends of the Responsibility to Protect for a period of three years.
