Qatar, South Sudan Establish Diplomatic Relations

New York, September 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the Republic of South Sudan signed on Thursday a joint statement for the establishment of diplomatic relations at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in New York.


Qatar Affirms Pivotal Role of Youth in Preventing Conflicts, Building and Maintaining Peace

New York, September 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed the pivotal role of youth in preventing conflicts and building and maintaining peace, and that they are essential partners in this, calling on member states to play a major role in facilitating youths' participation and giving them a leadership role in preventing conflicts and building peace. This came in a statement delivered by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the UN Security Council Arria-formula meeting on the implementation of the Council's resolutions on youth, peace and security by UN peace operations.


Qatar Affirms Commitment to Support UN Work, Importance of International Cooperation to Confront Covid-19 Pandemic

New York, August 13 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed its commitment to support the work of the United Nations and the importance of international cooperation to confront the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the unilateral measures it is facing that impede international cooperation and coordination under the umbrella of international and regional organizations. The State of Qatar stressed the need to address various dimensions in the framework of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, calling for the response to be integrated and coordinated and to be based on a peacekeeping perspective.


Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Continue Cooperating with UN to Eradicate Terrorism

New York, August 07 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to continue cooperation with the United Nations and Member States to eradicate terrorism, affirming its cooperation with multilateral bodies within the framework of international cooperation. Qatar has also expressed its belief in the importance of evidence-based policies and an understanding of the causes and forms of links between terrorism and organized crime, stressing its endeavor to enhance information security, encourage international cooperation to combat cybercrime, and provide a safe and robust cyber environment.


State of Qatar Renews Support for Peace Process in Afghanistan

New York, July 28 (QNA) - The State of Qatar renewed its support for the peace process in Afghanistan and the participation of Afghan women in peace, reaffirming its commitment to support Afghanistan, including the continuous support for the reconciliation process between the Afghan parties to establish peace and stability. This came in a statement delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in a closed virtual meeting held by the UN Security Council in the Arria-formula on "Women and the Afghan Peace Process: Ensuring Womens Participation and Promoting their Rights." The meeting was attended by HE the First Lady of Afghanistan Rula Ghani, HE Afghan Minister of Women Affairs Hasina Safi and member of the Afghan government negotiating team Habiba Sarabi. HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar said that the permanent peace in Afghanistan is a fundamental issue for the State of Qatar, adding that the State of Qatar has made great mediation efforts to support and facilitate the peace process in Afghanistan.


The State of Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Partnership and Cooperation in Addressing Climate Change

New York, July 25 (QNA) - The State of Qatar renewed Saturday its commitment to partnership and cooperation with the international community in dealing with climate change, stressing that the country's efforts were both on the national and international fronts. This came in a statement by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to the UN Security Council, which held a high-level teleconference meeting on climate and security.


Qatar Reiterates Adherence to Resolving Crisis with Blockading Countries by Peaceful Means

New York, July 23 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has reiterated adherence to resolving the crisis with the blockading countries by peaceful diplomatic means and through mediation and constructive unconditional dialogue, stressing that the blockade that it has faced for three years is unfair and represents illegal measures that contradict the United Nations Charter, principles of international law, international agreements and covenants and human rights in addition to harming the interests of the peoples. This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, before the UN Security Council, which held a virtual meeting on "the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue."


Qatar Affirms National Vision 2030 is Solid Framework For Achieving Sustainable Development

New York - Information Office - July 15 – 2020 The State of Qatar has affirmed that Qatar National Vision 2030 is a solid framework for achieving sustainable development at the national level, noting that it has integrated the goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into sections of the National Development Strategy (2018-2022). This came in a statement delivered by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in the general discussion of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development "Accelerated Action and Transformative Pathways: Realizing the Decade of Action and Delivery for Sustainable Development", which was held from July, 7-16 2020.


Led by Qatar's Representative, Intergovernmental Negotiations on UN Future Concluded

New York – Information Office – 09 July The intergovernmental negotiations on the declaration of the heads of state and government, on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), were concluded at the UN Headquarters in New York after arduous negotiations that lasted for nearly four months, starting with the first consultation session in February, held with the participation of all UN member states, and resulted in drafting the declaration to be adopted on September 21, 2020 at the high-level meeting of the General Assembly at the level of heads of state and government of member states. HE the State of Qatar's permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, along with HE Permanent Representative of Sweden to the UN, Anna Karin Enestrom led the intergovernmental negotiations, mandated by president of the 74th session of the General Assembly, in accordance with Resolution No. No. 73/299 of 73rd session of UN General Assembly.


Qatar Stresses Need to Increase Support for Victims of Terrorism in Exceptional Circumstances of COVID-19 Pandemic
