Qatar Underlines Importance of Adhering to Nuclear Disarmament Agreements, Treaties

New York / Information Office / October 08 The State of Qatar stressed the importance of adhering to all agreements and treaties on disarmament of nuclear and mass destruction weapons to reach the goal of freeing the world from threats to humanity, expressing aspiration for all countries to join those agreements to achieve peace and security and preserve future generations and environmental systems from the danger of the spread of such weapons. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the 76th session of the UN General Assembly First Committee (the Disarmament and International Security Committee), which began its discussion on all agenda items relating to disarmament and international security.

New York – Information Office - October 07 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani co-chaired alongside Under-Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Vladimir Voronkov a virtual meeting of the International Expert Group Meeting on Vulnerable Targets and Unmanned Aircraft Systems convened by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism with the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the United States, the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and in consultation with INTERPOL. The two-day meeting comes within the context of the follow-up and development of the strategies of the Global Programme on Countering Terrorist Threats against Vulnerable Targets, which was launched early 2021, and funded by the State of Qatar as part of its commitment to support the strategic priorities of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.


Qatar Affirms That It Will Remain Platform for Cooperation Between All Countries

Qatar's Permanent Representative Chairs General Debates of UN General Assembly Legal Committee

New York – Information Office - October 06 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani chaired the first session of the Sixth (Legal) Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, where Her Excellency opened the Committee's general debates of its 76th session. Last June, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously elected HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to chair the Sixth Committee at its 76th session. After her election, HE Sheikha Alya affirmed the State of Qatar's keenness to chair the Sixth (Legal) Committee of the General Assembly, as it is the main forum on legal issues, and the State's firm belief in the rule of law and commitment to international law and its critical role in stabilizing and strengthening international relations, and achieving the goals of the United Nations, which its charter formed the legal basis for the work of the international organization.


Qatar, UN Sign Agreement on Hosting LDC5 in Doha

UN Official Hails Qatar's Humanitarian Support for Gaza Strip During Security Council Meeting on Situation in Middle East

New York - Information Office - October 03 UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland said that the United Nations started implementing the project of cash aid to provide assistance to about 100,000 vulnerable families in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the State of Qatar's indispensable support and generous contribution that amounted to USD 40 million over the course of four months. This came during the Security Council's monthly meeting on 'The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question', as he welcomed "Qatar's generous contribution to support vulnerable families and improve the dire socioeconomic and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip."
