Qatar Inaugurates Photo Exhibition on Children and Armed Conflict at United Nations Headquarters

New York - Information Office - May 07 On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Children and Armed Conflict, the State of Qatar sponsored a photo exhibition on children and armed conflict under the title "From Despair to Hope: Children beyond Armed Conflict", which was organized at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, with the permanent missions of Kazakhstan, Malta, Iraq, Norway, France and the United Kingdom. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba, a number of ambassadors and permanent delegates to the International Organization, and representatives of the relevant United Nations agencies and non-governmental civil society organizations.


Qatar Reiterates Strong Condemnation, Denunciation of Israeli Occupation Forces, Settlers Storming the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque

New York / Information Office / April 26 The State of Qatar reiterated its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces and extremist settlers who stormed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque days ago, assaulting defenseless worshippers, arresting them, and obstructing their performance of their religious rites, stressing that this is a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and international legitimacy. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the meeting of the UN Security Council on the "Situation in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question."


Qatar Affirms Commitment to Promote, Protect Elderly Rights

New York - Information Office - April 12 The State of Qatar has affirmed its commitment to continue its tireless efforts to promote and protect elderly rights and work to remove all obstacles that could prevent them from living in dignity and well-being in the shadow of their families and society, in addition to ensuring their participation in the construction and development process at all levels. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar made by the Director of the Family Affairs Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Najat Daham Al-Abdullah during the 12th session of the United Nations Open-ended Working Group on Ageing.


General Assembly Welcomes Qatar's Hosting of 2022 FIFA World Cup

New York / Information Office / April 09 The United Nations General Assembly welcomed in a consensus resolution adopted today the State of Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The resolution welcomed the unique dimension of the 2022 World Cup, which is organized by the international football association (FIFA) in the State of Qatar for the first time in the Middle East. The General Assembly adopted its resolution under the title "The 2022 World Cup organized by FIFA in Qatar". The resolution was submitted by the State of Qatar and sponsored by 106 countries, under the item "Sport for Peace and Development; Building a Peaceful and Better World Through Sport and the Olympic Ideal".


Qatar Reiterates its Efforts to Cooperate with International Partners to Settle Syrian Crisis

New York - Information Office - April 02 The State of Qatar reiterated that it will continue to seek, in cooperation with international partners, to support possible ways to constructively contribute to the settlement of the Syrian crisis through a purposeful political process that leads to a political transition in accordance with the Geneva Declaration and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people and preserve the unity, sovereignty and independence of Syria. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by the First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sharifa Yousef Alnesf, before the United Nations General Assembly, on the "Report of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in Syria since March 2011", and under the clause of the prevention of armed conflict.


Qatar Renews its Support for Education of Girls and Children in Afghanistan

Doha / Information Office / March 31 The State of Qatar has renewed its support for education in Afghanistan, especially the education of children and girls, warning against impeding girls' education, which would have negative effects on human rights, sustainable development and the economy in Afghanistan. This came in a speech by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, in front of the side event held by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on the sidelines of the 20th Doha Forum, entitled "Acknowledgment of the generous support provided by the State of Qatar and its partners to refugee children of Afghanistan in Qatar and everywhere", which was organized by the Executive Director of UNICEF Catherine Russell, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham.


First Annual Forum of Beneficiaries of Technical Assistance on Countering Terrorism Concludes in Doha

Fourth High-Level Strategic Dialogue between Qatar and UNOCT Discusses Areas of Cooperation

Doha / Information Office / March 29 The Fourth High-Level Strategic Dialogue between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), which was held in Doha, discussed strategic priorities and collaboration for effective United Nations support to Member States on counter-terrorism. The dialogue took stock of key achievements and impact of policy, coordination and capacity-building work supported by the State of Qatar, and discussed strategic priorities for the coming year for effective United Nations counter-terrorism support to Member States. The two sides reaffirmed their strong partnership and discussed opportunities for further collaboration. The State of Qatar is the second largest contributor to the United Nations Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism out of a total 35 other donors.


Qatar Reaffirms Political Solution to Syrian Crisis, Women's Participation in Peace Negotiations, National Reconciliation

New York - Information Office - March 24 The State of Qatar has reaffirmed the political solution to the Syrian crisis, and the participation of Syrian women in all peace negotiations, transitional processes and national reconciliation. This came in a speech delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani via videoconferencing in the virtual event organized by the Syrian Feminist Political Movement on justice through feminist perspective, on the sidelines of the 66th session of the United Nations on the Status of Women (CSW), under the auspices of the permanent missions of Qatar, Canada, France, Sweden, UK, Germany, US and Turkey to the United Nations.


Qatar Welcomes Adoption of Doha Program of Action for LDC5

New York / Information Office / March 18 The State of Qatar welcomed the adoption of the Doha Program of Action (DPoA) for the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) for the decade 2022-2031 by consensus, considering the DPoA adoption in the first part of the conference an important achievement that would contribute to adding positive momentum to the efforts and preparations for holding the second part of the conference, which the State of Qatar aspires to host from March 5-9, 2023. This came in the statement with which by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani concluded the work of the first part of the LDC5, which was held at the UN headquarters in New York under the chairmanship of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
