HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met Wednesday with HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak, the President-elect of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, the State of Qatar's permanent representative to the United Nations, met on Wednesday with the International Chamber of Commerce's Secretary General, John Danilovich.

The State of Qatar has reiterated the importance of promoting peaceful societies to achieve sustainable development goals and pursuing an approach that will provide universal access to justice and establish effective and comprehensive accountability institutions. This came in a high-level debate session moderated by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani. Held today in New York, the session discussed "Transnational Organized Crime" on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Judge Giovanni Falcone.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Raad Zeid Al Hussein received two messages from HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, related to the implications of the illegal siege Qatar is subjected to from Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, voiced concern over the potential impact on the human rights of many people on the heels of the decision by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt to sever diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar.

The United Nations(UN) said it is bound only by the list of sanctions adopted by the organs of the United Nations and the Security Council. This came in UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric response to a question about the list, made by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Bahrain, of so the called "terrorist organizations and entities" featuring the name of Qatar Charity.

The State of Qatar and South Korea have launched an initiative to form a group of Friends of Education for Global Citizenship in a meeting held in New York. Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to United Nations HE Ambassador Cho Tae-yul launched the initiative. Addressing the meeting, HE Sheikha Alia said that the initiative was launched as part of Qatar's efforts to implement the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.

The United Nations Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) awarded the Special Consultative Status in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to Education Above All (EAA) and Qatar Foundation for Social Action during its Resumed Session, which began at the UN Headquarters in New York on 22 May.

The State of Qatar stressed commitment to support any initiative by the UN Security Council aimed at protecting civilians during armed conflict in order to achieve international peace and security in the region and the world. Addressing the Security Council Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, said the Resolution 2286 (2016) adopted by the Security Council was particularly important to cope with wars and conflicts in various regions of the world, including conflicts in our region, which are increasingly disregarding the sanctity of the medical sector, medical personnel and facilities as well as the wounded and the sick.

The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Fund for Development, has signed an agreement with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to provide a multi-year generous financial contribution of $40 million to support the office, in the presence of HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and HE Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed.
