New York, June 14 (QNA) - The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations has organized, in partnership with the Shafallah Center; Mada Center for Assistive Technology; the Health and Human Technology Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Hamad Bin Khalifa University; and the Qatar Foundation for Social Work , a panel discussion on how technology can help people with autism, on the sidelines of the 12 session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The State of Qatar had a significant and effective presence in the session, which was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York (11-13 June).

New York, June 13 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed its keenness to adopt and implement many policies and programs to enable persons with disabilities to live in dignity, stressing that the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities are guaranteed in accordance with the Constitution and the law. This came in a statement delivered by Director of the Family Affairs Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Najat Daham Al Abdullah at the 12th session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which started Tuesday at the UN Headquarters in New York.

New York, June 12 (QNA) - United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) expressed appreciation and welcome for the State of Qatar's hosting of the fifth United Nations (UN) Least Developed Countries Conference in Doha in 2021. This was stated in a resolution unanimously adopted by the ECOSOC.

New York, June 07 (QNA) - The United Nations General Assembly elected Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ahmed bin Saif Al Kuwari as Vice-Chairman of the UN Economic and Financial Committee of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will begin in September. The UN General Assembly also elected Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani as Rapporteur of UN Legal Committee.

New York, June 07 (QNA) - The Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar and other States organized a high-level session to launch a roadmap for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to address the issue of children recruitment and exploitation by terrorist and violent extremism groups. At the initiative of Qatar's Delegation to the UN, along with the permanent delegations of Japan, Belgium, Nigeria and Canada in addition to the UNODC, a high-level session was held for the launch of the UNODC Roadmap for action to address the children recruitment and exploited by terrorist and violent extremism groups. Held under the theme "Protecting our Future: priority for all" at United Nations Headquarters in New York, The session focused on strengthening prevention and developing strategies to protect and respect the full rights of children as victims of terrorism and violent extremism, regardless of their alleged involvement in the commission of crimes.

Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani chaired, in her capacity as Vice-President of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Maria Fernanda Espinosa, a General Assembly high-level debate on the role of regional organizations in strengthening and implementing crime prevention initiatives. H.E. the ambassador stressed in her opening speech, on behalf of the President of the General Assembly, on the importance of cooperation between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations, and the pivotal roles of organizations in crime prevention and criminal justice issues, given the magnitude and complexity of the challenges facing the international community today.

New York, April 29 (QNA) -The State of Qatar has urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action to deter those responsible for the military escalation in western Libya and warned against further slide into chaos and insecurity in western Libya. This came in a statement delivered by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, at the regular meeting of the UN Security Council on "The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question". Her Excellency expressed Qatar's deep concern at the military escalation in western Libya, and said "The State of Qatar is following with great concern the military escalation in western Libya that preceded the convening of the Libyan National Congress, which threatens to undermine the path of the political solution sponsored by the United Nations

New York, April 25 (QNA) - The State of Qatar reiterated that the continuation of the unjust blockade imposed almost two years ago, under vague and exposed pretexts to the international community, constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, human rights, and the United Nations (UN) Charter and undermines international cooperation and the international multilateral system. Qatar warned of weakening the multilateral system, which would spread the policy of bullying in international relations, and replace the rule of law with the law of jungle, with the risks and consequences of a terrible price for all. This came in a statement of HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, at the High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. Her Excellency said that the continuing and growing challenges of the international community were a growing concern for all, as crises and breaches of international law threatened peace and stability in the world, stressing that the only option for achieving peace and development and protecting human dignity is based on diplomacy and multilateralism.

New York, April 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar, on behalf of the Group of Friends on the Responsibility to Protect, called on the UN Security Council to take decisive action to end and prevent sexual violence in situations of conflict, and urged the Council to better use of sanctions in order to prevent and stop sexual violence. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, on behalf of the Group of Friends on the Responsibility to Protect, which is chaired by the State of Qatar in partnership with Denmark, at the High-level Security Council Meeting on "Women, Peace and Security: Sexual Violence in Conflict". HE Sheikha Alya Al-Thani reviewed a strategy to combat sexual violence in conflict, based on strengthening the capacity of national institutions which she said is critical to ensure accountability for these crimes in the past and to prevent and deter such crimes in the future. She called on Member States to take legal and legislative action to address the phenomenon of sexual violence in times of conflict comprehensively.

The State of Qatar has renewed its support for the International Impartial and Independent Mechanism to hold accountable those accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria, stressing that sustainable peace in Syria can only be achieved through justice by ensuring accountability. This came in a statement made by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani at the UN General Assembly meeting on the report of the "International Impartial and Independent Mechanism to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011." HE said that the State of Qatar's keenness in the International Impartial and Independent Mechanism stems from its moral and legal responsibility to bring justice to the victims, as well as its keenness to enhance chances of achieving sustainable peace in Syria, which can only be achieved through justice by ensuring accountability.
