Qatar Calls for Strengthening Multilateral Action to Address Issues and Challenges that Threaten Global Peace and Security

New York, December 15 (QNA) - The State of Qatar called for strengthening multilateral action in order to address current issues and challenges that threaten global peace and security, stressing the need to build a more equal, resilient and sustainable world, within the framework of the central and vanguard role of the United Nations. This came in the State of Qatar's statement given by HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani before the UN Security Council session held on "Maintenance of International Peace and Security: A New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism."

New York, December 07 (QNA) - HE President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Csaba Korosi chose HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations Ambassador Fergal Mythen to facilitate and lead consultations on the Political Declaration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit during the 77th session of the General Assembly.

The joint organization of this event between the delegations of the State of Qatar and the Principality of Monaco, which is being held for the first time in the history of the United Nations, comes due to their co-chairing of the Group of Friends of Sport concerned with sport and sustainable development.


Qatar Condemns and Denounces Football's Politicization, Racialization Attempts

New York, December 02 (QNA) - The State of Qatar condemned attempts to politicize and racialize football and sports, stressing that it refuses to engage with malicious campaigns, and will continue to adhere to its national and Arab values, and international standards in preventing the politicization and racialization of football in general. Qatar Facilitates Negotiations of Resolution Adopted by 3rd Committee of UN General Assembly

New York / Media & Communication Dept./ November 19 The Third Committee on (Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural) of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus the resolution for the "Preparatory procedures for marking the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family" to implement the objectives of the International Year of the Family, in which the State of Qatar facilitated negotiations, on behalf of the Group of 77 and China to the UN. The Group of 77 and China expressed particular appreciation to the delegation of the State of Qatar, which facilitated over the past years the consultations on the resolution. Qatar began to introduce the resolution in 2004, after having hosted the Doha International Conference on the Family that year and facilitated the negotiations on the resolution since 2005.


Qatar Affirms Commitment to Afghanistan's Stability, Prosperity, and Peace

New York, November 18 (QNA) - The State of Qatar stressed its commitment to the stability, prosperity, peace of Afghanistan, while expressing alarm regarding the deteriorating humanitarian and economic conditions and violations of human rights, stressing that it is an active participant with the international community in the efforts of establishing peace and supporting developmental and humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar read out by Third Secretary of the Permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani. The statement was read at the UN Security Council Arria-Formula Meetings to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.


Qatar Calls on International Community to End Occupation and Put Pressure on Israel to Engage in Peace Process

New York, November 12 (QNA) - The State of Qatar called on the international community to assume its moral and legal responsibility to end the occupation, and to put pressure on Israel to engage in a real peace process that would enable the Palestinian people to have the right to self-determination and to reach a comprehensive and just peace in accordance with international law, relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by the Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, before the Special Political and Decolonization Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, on the item "Israeli practices affecting human rights of Palestinian people."


Qatar Renews its Firm Commitment to Work with UN to Provide Assistance to Afghanistan 11 November 2022

New York, November 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has renewed its firm commitment to work with the United Nations, especially its mission, to provide assistance to Afghanistan, explaining that its constructive engagement in Afghanistan is clear and specific, and is represented in the implementation of the goals and references of its foreign policy that is based on the preventive diplomacy approach based on mediation, and the resolution of regional and international disputes through dialogue and negotiation, and helping the Afghan people to achieve freedom, peace and development, in addition to strengthening regional and international security and stability.
