Qatar Affirms Relentless Efforts to Protect and Promote Children's Rights

New York / Information Office / October 11 The State of Qatar affirmed that it will spare no effort to protect and promote children's rights, noting that its made great strides over the past decades in this regard by adopting many measures at the legislative and executive levels in many areas and sectors, within the implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030, which is consistent with its obligations with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocols. This came in the State of Qatar's statement made by the Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Al Maha Mubarak Al-Thani, before the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) of the United Nations General Assembly on the item "Promoting and Protecting Children's Rights."


Qatar Chairs Session of UN General Assembly Second Committee

Doha / Information Office / October 08 The State of Qatar chaired a session for the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the General Assembly at its seventy-seventh session. The State of Qatar was represented by Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani. The State of Qatar had been elected as Vice-Chair of the Second Committee for the Asian and Pacific Group of States. The Second Committee deals with issues relating to economic growth and development such as macroeconomic policy questions; financing for development; sustainable development; globalization and interdependence; eradication of poverty; operational activities for development; agriculture development, food security and nutrition; information and communications technologies for development; and implementation of the New Urban Agenda.


The State of Qatar Reiterates Commitment to Partnership with International Community on Sustainable Development Agenda

New York / Information Office / October 07 The State of Qatar stressed its commitment to partnering with the international community to respond to challenges, and its commitment to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The country warned from the challenges facing agenda, which were exacerbated by the COVID-1 pandemic, as well as the climate change emergency, conflicts, and crises related to food, energy, and financing. Paraguay Awards HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani National Order of Merit

New York – Information Office - October 03 The Republic of Paraguay has awarded HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani the National Order of Merit Don Jose Falcon in recognition of Qatar's contribution to Paraguay's access to COVID-19 vaccines during the worst phase of the global health crisis. HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay Julio Cesar Arriola Ramirez presented the order to HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during a ceremony at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Paraguay to the United Nations in New York.


Qatar's Permanent Mission Hosts Event on Combating Child Trafficking in Sports

New York – Information Office - September 29 The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, in partnership with the missions of Gabon and Monaco, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Mission 89, hosted an event on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on combating child trafficking in sports, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, which was held under the title "Time to Stand Against Child Trafficking in Sport, Role of Technology and Support to Tackle Exploitation and Human Trafficking in Sport". HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani affirmed in a speech before the event that human trafficking is a source of great concern to the State of Qatar, noting that trafficking in migrant athletes, usually teenagers, is an alarming development.
