Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Partnership with International Community to Achieve Sustainable Development Agenda 2030

New York, October 15 (QNA) - The State of Qatar affirmed that making a progress towards the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 in the next phase requires the strengthening of the global partnership, reiterating its continued commitment to working and establishing partnership with the international community to achieve common goals.

This came in the State of Qatar's statement delivered by Tamim Khalid Al Mansouri, Member of the State of Qatar's delegation participating in the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, before the Second Committee on item (19) on sustainable development.

The meeting is another opportunity to move forward in the common endeavor to ensure that no one is left behind, to emphasize all efforts to achieve the ambitious aspirations of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, and to address obstacles to development, taking into account the priorities, needs and specificities of developing and least developed countries in particular, Al Mansouri said.

In this regard, and out of the State's understanding of the urgent need of multilateral concerted action to address the risks of climate change, as one of the greatest challenges that undermine the progress made in the sustainable development field, and its keenness to assume its role as an active partner with the international community, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced at the UN Climate Action Summit the State of Qatar's contribution of $100 million to support small developing island states and the least developed states to deal with climate change, especially since these countries bear the brunt of the consequences of climate change, he said.

He pointed out that the Qatar National Vision 2030 set the main economic, social, human and environmental goals, and put development at the center of its priorities, noting the State of Qatar's multi-year and non-earmarked support for core resources of the UN organizations by $500 million, announced during the Doha Forum last year, which will benefit the enhanced implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

As part of this support, a multi-year contribution of $20 million has been allocated to support the Qatari laboratory network to accelerate the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals, he added.

Al Mansouri stated that equitable access to quality and inclusive education is one of the most important enablers of sustainable development, given its pivotal role in building a better future, developing skills, promoting tolerance and respect and promoting the culture of peace.

Within this trend, and based on the belief that education is the key to development, the State of Qatar has paid considerable and remarkable attention to the issue of education and employment, he said, pointing out that the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) has achieved a major achievement in collaboration with international partners by providing quality education services to 10 million children and young people worldwide, and Silatech foundation in Qatar is actively contributing to tackling youth unemployment through its training and employment programs in the Arab region.

Al Mansouri said that the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the progress were at the heart of the follow-up and review process of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

As part of its efforts to fulfill its commitments in the implementation of this Agenda, the State of Qatar, during the sessions of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, provided a transparently reporting on the progress made by the State in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, including ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development, Al Mansouri added.
