Qatar's Permanent Mission Organizes Program for Delegation from QAF, Joaan bin Jassim College

New York, March 28 (QNA) - The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations organized a program for a delegation of officers from the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF) and members of the joint operations course from the Joaan bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College. The delegation visited New York City and the United Nations Headquarters.

The program included the holding of hearings with a range of senior officials of the General Secretariat of the United Nations. The delegation of the Qatar Armed Forces listened to a lecture by Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary Di Carlo on the objectives and role of the United Nations in the international arena, where she focused on conflict prevention and resolution, stressed the importance of multilateral action and the support of Member States, and commended the support provided by the State of Qatar to the United Nations.

Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix reviewed the United Nations peacekeeping operations in various regions of the world, in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and highlighted peace operations' objectives, mechanisms and their numbers as well as the number of military, police and civilian personnel involved in the operations.

For his part, Undersecretary-General for Legal Affairs Miguel de Serpa and his team of experts reviewed the role of international law in the prevention and resolution of armed conflicts. The lecture focused on the UN Charter and its relevance to international law in the prevention and resolution of armed conflicts. He noted the role of the Secretary-General's good offices in resolving conflicts in accordance with international law and within the mandate of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations.

At the end of the program, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al Otaibi, who is a current member of the Security Council, gave a lecture on the role and mechanisms of the Security Council in the maintenance of international peace and security from an Arab perspective.

At the beginning of the program, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani presented a comprehensive review of the role and activities of the Permanent Mission since Qatar joined the un in 1971.

She highlighted the Permanent Mission's work in promoting sustainable peace, preventive diplomacy and mediation, as well as the Mission's role in the area of human rights and sustainable development, and coordination with the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs.

Her Excellency noted the partnership with the United Nations offices concerned with the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and how to address it.

In conclusion, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani made a comprehensive presentation on the Permanent Mission's efforts since the first day of the blockade until now within the United Nations to address the unjust blockade and defend the sovereignty of the country. (QNA)
