The State of Qatar Stresses Rejection to Any Policies That Contradict with UN Principles

The State of Qatar has unequivocally rejected Saturday any policies that contradict with the principles and purposes of the United Nations and violate its Charter, Qatar also supports all efforts that contribute to strengthening the UN's role and objectives was established to achieve.

This came in the speech delivered by Second Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani before the sixth (Legal) committee of the United Nations 73rd General Assembly on the report of the special committee on the charter of the United Nations and on strengthening the role of the Organization. The meeting took place at the UN headquarters in New York.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani praised the effort of the committee in that regard, saying the State of Qatar supports the ideas and proposals that aim to enhance the work of the UN. Sheikh Mohammed noted that the State of Qatar employed its capabilities and international partnerships to enhancing the work of the United Nations, and to achieve its goals in security, peace, development, and human rights. His Excellency also highlighted the role the State of Qatar plays to settle conflicts peacefully in cooperation with the UN, saying it was a pillar of the country's policies.

The second secretary of the permanent delegation of the state of Qatar to the United Nations expressed the country's pride at the level of international partnerships, as well as its appreciation to the wide-ranging support its getting in the face of the urgent challenges facing the country.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted in that regard the decision made by the highest international judicial body on the negative impact the blockade had on Qatari citizens, referencing the order issued by the International Criminal Justice (ICJ) to grant Qatar's request for provisional measures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for its discriminatory treatment of Qatari citizens. He noted that the court's order required the UAE to Qatari-UAE mixed families to reunite, Qatari students to complete their studies in the UAE, and to allow access to judicial services in the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani said that it is regrettable that the world is witnessing a trend of ignoring the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, including attempts to impose dictatorial policies, interfere in internal affairs and undermine the sovereignty of states under pretexts and claims that are out of touch with the United Nations system. His Excellency added that such behavior was a severe violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the provisions of international law, adding that it is also a serious threat to the international order.

The second secretary of the permanent delegation of the state of Qatar to the United Nations also said that these trends and policies contribute to creating an unstable environment, and help terrorist organizations move freely to achieve their objectives, taking advantage of the absence of regional and international coordination resulting from these illegal policies.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani highlighted the international community's rejection of these policies and measures on numerous occasions, noting that a country a group of countries could sometimes impose their jurisdiction on the targeted country in a clear violation of the principles of sovereignty and equality.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani said that unilateral policies have been proven a dangerous challenge to peace, security regionally and internationally, as well as a drain on the collective ability to respond to the impact of these policies. His Excellency noted that unilateral and illegal measures were a clear violation of international law, highlighting that the UN Security Council's strategy focuses on dealing with threats to peace and security by exhausting all peaceful measures to settling conflicts first.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani then said that member states should honor their commitments with regards to preventing unilateral measures.
