Agreement Signed to Establish UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Qatar

New York, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the United Nations have signed an agreement to establish the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the State of Qatar.

HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani signed the agreement on behalf of the State of Qatar, while HE Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock signed the agreement on the UN's behalf.

The office, which will be based in Doha, aims to coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors, defend the rights of those in need, raise the level of alert and prevention, and facilitate sustainable solutions.

It will also support the main United Nations office's mission of coordinating global humanitarian action and field operations around the world. (QNA)
