Qatar, UN Discuss Arrangements of Doha's Hosting of 5th Conference on Least Developed Countries

New York, June 21 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani met here on Friday with HE Fekitamoeloa Katoa 'Utoikamanu the UN Under Secretary-General and The United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States to discuss the arrangements related to Doha's hosting of the UN Fifth Conference on Least Developed Countries slated for 2021 in the State of Qatar.

During the meeting, HE the Ambassador welcomed the decision adopted by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, in which the Council expressed appreciation for the generous offer by the Government of the State of Qatar to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in 2021.

She explained that the hosting of the conference was an affirmation of the State of Qatar's commitment to supporting the least developed countries and to continuing its role in the international community.

In turn, HE 'Utoikamanu expressed appreciation and gratitude for the State of Qatar's support for the least developed countries and its hosting of the Conference.

The meeting also discussed the organizational and administrative aspects of the Fifth UN Conference, which is expected to witness the presence of a number of Heads of State and Government and Foreign Ministers in addition to a number of United Nations specialized agencies. (QNA)
