Qatar Chairs Meeting of GCC Countries' Permanent Representatives to UN with ICRC President

New York, March 21 (QNA) - Within the framework of the State of Qatar's presidency of the 44th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, held a meeting that brought together Their Excellencies the Permanent Representatives of the GCC countries to the United Nations and HE President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.

During the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the permanent delegation in New York, the ICRC President provided a detailed count on the important role of the Committee in delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip and the Republic of Sudan, in response to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the two regions.

For her part, HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations affirmed that the GCC countries welcomed the joint work and coordination with the ICRC to expand the scope of humanitarian aid and facilitate its delivery to civilians in need, especially in light of the recent statements of the Secretary-General of the United Nations about the inevitability of famine in northern Gaza.
