New York - Information Office - October 03

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland said that the United Nations started implementing the project of cash aid to provide assistance to about 100,000 vulnerable families in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the State of Qatar's indispensable support and generous contribution that amounted to USD 40 million over the course of four months.

This came during the Security Council's monthly meeting on 'The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question', as he welcomed "Qatar's generous contribution to support vulnerable families and improve the dire socioeconomic and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip."

A number of the Security Council's member states representatives also expressed their appreciation for Qatar's humanitarian support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

This support is based on a memorandum of understanding that the State of Qatar has signed with the UN Special Coordinator, which includes the mechanism for distributing the cash aid grant provided by the State of Qatar to needy families in Gaza Strip.
