New York, November 03 (QNA) - HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres welcomed the announcement of HH the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, at the inauguration of the 49th ordinary session of the Shura Council, on holding elections for the Shura Council in October 2021.

Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, stated that the UN Secretary-General welcomes and encourages the elections of the Shura Council.

The spokesperson noted that the UN Secretary-General understands that preparations are under way and that the Government of the State of Qatar will take all necessary measures to allow for inclusive, participatory elections. (QNA)
